We Bring the Very Best Salmon in the World to Arizona
Kodiak Fresh salmon comes from the cold, clean waters of the Pacific’s Emerald Isle.
We are a small business and the salmon comes from our family’s commercial fishing boats, F/V Heidi and F/V Cami O. It is then processed and vacuum sealed at a local cannery in Kodiak. The vacuum seal keeps the salmon fillets good for a year or longer if stored properly, at 40 degrees or below.
Alaska has one of the most sustainable fishing systems in the world.
Fishing for salmon is carefully monitored-never over or under harvested.
All of our salmon is caught at its peak June through August and goes directly from the boat to the processing plant, so you get fillets that are pink, firm, fresh and delicious.
Wild or Farm Raised?
Salmon farmers contend that farming rather than harvesting wild salmon helps sustain the numbers. This is simply not true when wild salmon is harvested responsibly.
Grown and harvested in floating pens in big open bodies of water.
In order to sustain the health of the salmon living in these unnatural conditions without access to their natural diet, they are fed antibiotics to keep them healthy and Canthaxanthin to give them the pink coloring we expect when we see salmon on our plate!
PCB chemicals are found in high numbers in farm raised salmon. (PCBs were banned in the United States in 1976, but they still get released into the environment at toxic waste sites).
Dioxins, dieldrin, and toxaphenes have also been found in high concentrations in farm raised salmon.
One study suggests that people should not eat more than one portion of farm raised salmon a month due to the high concentration of chemicals and additives.
Wild salmon get their vibrant pink and red colors from their natural diet.
Sockeye get their rich red color from eating tiny shrimp and krill, which are loaded with carotenoids.
Wild salmon thrive in their natural habitat without the need for any additives. This is why wild sockeye salmon tastes so much better and is much healthier.
Wild sockeye salmon is a high protein food with Omega-3 fatty acids and important vitamins and minerals.
